Why I Became a Therapist: The Heart Behind Shift Happens Therapy

I’m so excited to open my doors to new clients. This feels like the start of a long and hopeful, abundant journey — both for me and for anyone who chooses to walk this path of growth and healing alongside me.

Starting a therapy practice has been a dream in the making for years, and now that Shift Happens Therapy is live, I’m ready to offer a space where real, meaningful change can happen. This is more than just a service — it’s a commitment to supporting you in your unique journey toward wellbeing.

I’m not just a therapist — I’m someone who has lived the experience of navigating life with ADHD. I understand deeply what it’s like to feel misunderstood, out of sync, or overlooked by the world around you. That personal experience has fuelled my passion to create a therapy space where people feel truly seen, accepted, and understood — without judgment.

My path to becoming a therapist wasn’t quick or easy. It took five years of dedicated training, lots of self-reflection, and personal growth. Along the way, I developed a deep passion for attachment theory and exploring the complex ways our family relationships shape us. These are big, often messy areas of life that can bring pain — but also incredible opportunity for healing and transformation.

One of the things I find truly fascinating is how evolution has shaped the human mind, especially our built-in survival responses like fight, flight, and freeze. These automatic reactions served our ancestors well in dangerous situations, helping them survive threats in their environment. Today, these instincts still influence how we respond to stress and challenges—sometimes in ways that feel overwhelming or confusing. Understanding this evolutionary wiring helps me support clients in recognising their natural responses and learning how to work with them, not against them, on the path to healing and resilience.

The name Shift Happens perfectly captures how I see life and therapy with an added twist of my personality. I want you to know upfront — I’m not your standard therapist. I don’t fit into a neat little box, and that’s exactly how I like it. I bring my whole self to the work, including my ADHD, my passion for real human connection, and my honest, down-to-earth approach. How does that make you feel? Maybe it’s refreshing, maybe it’s a bit different from what you expected. Either way, I believe therapy should be real, relatable, and tailored to you — not a one-size-fits-all experience. If that speaks to you, then we might just be a great fit.

Life is full of unexpected shifts, sudden changes, and moments that shake us to our core. But within those shifts lie chances to grow stronger, to heal old wounds, and to create new, healthier ways of living. My role is to walk alongside you through those shifts, not only as a therapist but as someone who truly understands the challenges and the possibilities. We will laugh, we will cry (yes, that includes me too!) and we will navigate the tricky spots together.

This is just the beginning — there’s so much more I want to share about how I work, my approach, and the hope I hold for every client who steps through my door (well, who currently clicks the 'join now' online meeting box).

Thank you for stopping by — I’m looking forward to connecting with you.
